Catalyst Sneak Peek
Aderyn and Xaran were born long ago, though they existed in alternate forms. For many years they rattled around in my head, insisting I finish their story, and I'm glad I've finally had the chance to heed their demands.
These two were so much fun to write. I had a great time exploring Aderyn's surliness and Xaran's sometimes flippant attitude, and I enjoyed watching them gradually let go of their reluctance to trust and learn to work together.
This is a theme that comes up a lot in my writing, and I think that's because we've all had that experience. Learning to trust others can be a real struggle. Okay, so most of us aren't embroiled in a conspiracy, but even those of us just trying to deal with the everyday challenges of life can relate to how hard it is to let go and hope for the best from another person.
This book also gave me the chance to explore other types of Adept powers, which is lots of fun for me. I've always been partial to female characters who can kick butt, so I'm sure it goes without saying that I'm very fond of Aderyn, the Battle Master. Xaran's no slouch either, though, as he proves with his many Alchemist tricks.
A couple of old friends pop up as well, and as with the first book, Xaran and Aderyn aren't done yet, so plan on seeing them in future installments.
