Derailed Sneak Peek
Derailed started germinating in my head while I was visiting Normandy, France. I collected every last pamphlet and souvenir booklet I saw, eager to try my best to capture the feeling of Normandy. It's beautiful beyond description, and I doubt it's possible to do it any justice through words.
Travel has always been one of my passions. There's something transformational and freeing about getting outside of your normal space, being in an unfamiliar place where you can eat unfamiliar food and talk to unfamiliar people. This feeling is compounded when you're somewhere as old as Normandy. For an American like me, it's pretty unfathomable to walk through abbeys and castles that were built centuries ago.
While Derailed is a companion novel to Phoning It In, it works as a standalone. I'd always loved Lou's character, and I wanted to know what had become of her after Melinda found her happy ending. Lou is driven, dedicated to her career, but she comes to understand that putting all your eggs in one basket might not be the wisest choice. While her career will always be one of the most important aspects of her life, she realizes that she needs to get outside of herself, live a little. It doesn't hurt that she meets a sensitive, sexy French scientist who's more than willing to play tour guide.
If you love food, France, soulful men, women trying to figure out their lives, and slightly spicy romance, this is the book for you.
